Good morning! We are very excited to announce a website where you can order safe and effective supplements! We’ve talked about how effective supplements can be to improving your health and Dr. Stiller goes into more detail below.

Choosing sources for supplement and vitamins – including probiotics – is really important. Over the years, there have been some random testing done of various over the counter or ‘off the shelf’ supplements. The results have shown that some of these supplements have contained contaminants (toxins, sawdust, fillers), or had different products in them than advertised. Some have contained more or less of the product than was advertised on the label. I’m sure you are all aware of the controversies that pop up in the media about supplements not being regulated by any agency – including the FDA. That matters, because anyone that wants to sell you a product and is really good at marketing, can, theoretically, tell you their product contains something and sell it to you. But how are you to know if they are telling the truth? Fortunately, I believe there really are ways to protect yourself when considering supplements. One of the most important ways is to make sure that current Good Manufacturing Practices were followed by the company…there is often a notation ‘cGMP’ on the label from companies that follow this process.

Regulations are a double edged sword of sorts…they typically mean something will cost more. This is because in order to meet regulation requirements, the processing of any product will take more time, effort and testing. However, regulations also mean that there are methods in place to make sure a product is exactly what they say it is. I have spent quite a bit of time learning about various supplement companies, as I use supplements for myself and my family. I don’t want to pay for a product that is not what it is advertised to be, and I want to make sure that regulations are followed when producing the product, so I can feel comfortable that it doesn’t have fillers, toxins, hormones or any other entity in it that I don’t want in my body. There actually are quite a few quality manufactures out there. Some of the ones I trust the most include Nordic Naturals, Pure encapsulations, Ortho Molecular, Throne and Designs for Health. Not all of these manufactures have products that are available directly to any consumer. They are often pharmaceutical grade products – meaning that the manufacturing process goes through the same or very similar to FDA approval process for medications, which includes testing for quality multiple times a year. You can get the products through healthcare professionals and clinics, whenever they carry them on-site. The supplements provided by Designs for Health are guaranteed to be exactly what they say they are. No fillers and correct dosages.

I have been working with Designs for Health on finding a way to provide a convenient way to help you get the type of quality product I am willing to take myself. We don’t currently carry any of these supplements at the office, and I do not know that we ever will – simply because we are so busy working on improving your leg health that adding supplement stock to our list of things to manage each day (in the office) is not a high priority for us on a regular basis! Importantly, I don’t believe that everyone needs to be on a whole bunch of supplements. However, there are some supplements that I think are beneficial for most people when taken properly and if they are good quality products. We may have already talked about supplements that I thought you might benefit from at one of your appointments. If we have not talked about supplements, or your primary care doctor has not talked to you about supplements, I think it is best to have that conversation before starting on any specific supplement. With that being said, I have worked on a list of supplements that may be beneficial to a lot of people during this time of increased stress due to this pandemic. Over the next few weeks, I will focus on some of these supplements – and why I think they may be beneficial. We have already discussed probiotics.

I would ask that if you do not already take the supplements listed on the recommendation of one of your other doctors or myself, that you reach out to me to discuss your specific case, before you consider ordering anything. Also, if you are on any medications including blood thinners please contact myself or your primary doctor before starting a supplement regimen.
