Most people who suffer from symptoms of varicose veins wonder exactly what will happen during their first appointment with our office. Here’s what you can expect:
When you visit us for the first time, you will quickly discover you are treated like a person, not a number. You’ll likely meet with Nicole, who will take photos and measurements of your legs. This will help us properly fit you with compression stockings, should you require them.
Next, Stacy may do a quick scan of the veins in your legs (actually, it’s an ultrasound), especially if you do not have visible varicose veins. During this scan, we will be examining the larger veins deeper in your legs to look for any underlying problems. The scan is painless and usually takes less than five minutes. I will review your scan, which will help guide me in determining your diagnosis and the appropriate next steps.
Next, you will see me. If a scan was required, I will have it with me and we will discuss it. We’ll also review your medical history, your current symptoms and your family history. It all plays a role. Having a full understanding of your health helps me determine what to do next.
At our practice we take things a step further. We are interested in your overall health, not just your venous health. Yes, we’ll discuss next steps for your veins, but we may also talk about weight loss and creative ideas to help get you mobile. Healthy veins are a part of a larger system essential to your whole-body health. Everything is connected.
